The IDTA Lending Library - by post or come to the IDTA office in Hertford, UK
1. In 2010 IDTA received a generous donation of books and journals and offers a ‘lending library’ service by post.
2. The available items include early copies of ITA and ITAA publications as well as several books from the early years of TA and more recently. Many of these publications are no longer easy to find. The list is shown in the document above, where there is also a Lending Request form you can downlaod.
3. Loans will be for 3 weeks, plus 1 week to allow for posting back and forth; the loan period will begin on the day we post the item to you and .will end 4 weeks later. Late returns will incur fines of £1 per day.
4. The service will be free to IDTA members but we will ask you to pay the cost of post, packing and administration to send the item to you (you are welcome to donate more!).
5. Non-IDTA members may use the service in payment of a once-off library joining fee of £10. They will pay post and packing charges as for members. Non-IDTA members will also be asked for deposits, refundable when the item is received back, of £10 for a journal issue, £25 for a book, £50 for a rare book. These fees reflect the fact that some of these early publications would be impossible, and some very costly, to replace.
6. To avoid administrative costs of processing small payments through the banking system, we ask that you pay via PayPal. When we receive your request, we will email you a notification for the appropriate amount with details of the IDTA PayPal Account. Your loan item will be sent as soon as your payment has been received.
7. As guidance, at current postage rates within the UK, costs will range from £3.25 for an issue of a journal, up to £11.00 for the heaviest book (average books £7.50). Actual extra costs will be added for loans being sent outside the UK.
8. These costs include a small handling fee for processing as well as postage and packing materials. Items will be sent recorded or registered mail depending on the scarcity of the item.
9. You will be responsible for returning the item in the same way, so can expect postage to cost between £1.26 and £8.90 (or £5.45) (assuming you re-use the packaging the item arrived with).
